How Much Does It Cost To Get A Passport? - Expedited Passports

One of the most common questions people have when they’re obtaining a passport is “How much is this going to cost me?”

Passport prices vary, depending on the circumstances. Here’s a quick breakdown of current government fees:

• If you’re age 16 or older and you submit your application in person, you’ll pay a $75.00 application fee and a $25.00 execution fee for a passport book. The total fee is $100.00
• If you’re  age 16 or older, submit your application person, and order a passport card, you’ll pay a $20.00 application fee and a $25.00 execution fee, for a total cost of $45.00. However, passport cards are are only valid for land and sea travel to Mexico, Canada or the Caribbean.
• If you’re under age 16 and request a passport book, you’ll pay a $60.00 application fee and a $25.00 execution fee, for a total of $85.00.
• If you’re under age 16  and apply for a passport card, you’ll pay a $10.00 application fee and a $25.00 execution fee, for a total of $35.00
• If you are obtaining a passport renewal by mail, you only have to pay the application fee. So, you would pay $75.00 for a passport book and $20.00 for a passport card.
• You can request expedited service from the US Passport Agency for an additional $60.00, plus the cost of overnight shipping. Please note that even if you pay the additional $60.00 and pay for overnight shipping to and from the agency, obtaining a passport can still take weeks.

So, those are the government’s fees for obtaining a passport, as of February 2009. However, it’s a good idea to hire a third-party expediting service to submit your passport for you. Expediting services make getting a passport easier and much faster!
