The REAL ID Act Requirement for 2025

As of May 7, 2025, the REAL ID Act is officially in effect. If you’re flying domestically within the U.S., you’ll need to show a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of identification at TSA checkpoints.

Avoid travel delays—make sure you’re prepared before heading to the airport.

What is the REAL ID Act?

The REAL ID Act, passed by Congress in 2005, was a response to the 9/11 Commission’s recommendation to standardize identity documents for improved security.
