{"id":3575,"date":"2013-08-27T13:40:34","date_gmt":"2013-08-27T18:40:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rushmypassport.com\/blog\/?p=3575"},"modified":"2025-09-24T12:41:32","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T12:41:32","slug":"trusted-traveler-programs-tsa-precheck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rushmypassport.com\/blog\/trusted-traveler-programs-tsa-precheck\/","title":{"rendered":"Trusted Traveler Programs:  TSA PreCheck"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Trusted Traveler Programs: TSA PreCheck<\/p>\n<p>So far we\u2019ve covered the 3 key Trusted Traveler Programs:\u00a0 Global Entry, NEXUS and SENTRI.\u00a0 The 4th program, and the last post in our series, is focused on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsa.gov\/precheck\">TSA Pre\u2713&#x2122;<\/a>.\u00a0 On Friday, 7\/19\/13, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced that it would be open up the program to more US citizens.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3576 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/d2qea59vi8or.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/tpc_fp_banner_page-300x64.jpg\" alt=\"TSA Pre-Check Logo\" width=\"300\" height=\"64\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d2qea59vi8or.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/tpc_fp_banner_page-300x64.jpg 300w, https:\/\/d2qea59vi8or.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/tpc_fp_banner_page.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Previously, to be eligible for TSA Pre\u2713&#x2122;, travelers had to opt-in through an airline\u2019s frequent flier program, or be enrolled in one of CBP\u2019s Global Entry, SENTRI or NEXUS Trusted Traveler programs.\u00a0\u00a0 To date, more than 12 million travelers have experienced TSA Pre\u2713&#x2122; at 40 airports nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>The reason for the popularity of TSA Pre\u2713&#x2122; is that travelers get to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 compliant liquids\/gels bag in a carry-on in select screening lanes.\u00a0 Sound like nirvana?<\/p>\n<p>Well starting later this year, if you are a US Citizen you will be able to apply online and visit an enrollment site to provide identification and fingerprints.\u00a0 TSA will start the program at two initial enrollment sites \u2014 Washington Dulles International Airport and Indianapolis International Airport \u2014 with plans to expand to additional enrollment sites nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>To qualify you will need to go through a background check, fingerprints, and an anticipated enrollment fee of $85 for a five-year membership.\u00a0 Once approved, you will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) and the opportunity to go through TSA Pre\u2713&#x2122; lanes at security checkpoints at participating airports.\u00a0 But don\u2019t get too comfortable.\u00a0 TSA will always incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the airport and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more, visit the official TSA Pre\u2713&#x2122;
