Seattle Emergency Passport Office Moves to a New Home

Seattle residents who need an emergency passport should be sure they head to the right address. Earlier this month, the office moved from its previous location in the Jackson Federal building to a new location in the Fifth and Yesler Building. The move reflects the increased demand for emergency passports in the Seattle area since they became required for most travel to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. According to the Seattle Times, the new office is roomier and has more service windows.

The Seattle Passport Agency is one of 24 regional passport agency offices sprinkled throughout the US. These offices serve as emergency passport offices for US citizens who have booked an international trip within the next two weeks and require a new passport or a passport renewal for travel.  You are also eligible to use the office if you are traveling within the next four weeks to a country that requires you to apply for a travel visa before leaving the US.  Here’s how it works:

  • Make an appointment: all passport agency offices are open by appointment only. To reserve your appointment, call 1-877-487-2778. The passport office has limited operating hours of 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, so if you work first shift, you may need to ask for additional time off to make the appointment.
  • Come to the new office, located at in suite 600 of the Fifth and Yessler building at 300 5th Avenue in Seattle. Be punctual: if you miss your scheduled appointment time, you’ll have to reschedule.
  • Bring all of the documents needed to apply for an emergency passport or passport renewal. For details, see How to Apply for a New Passport and Passport Renewal: A Step-by-Step Guide. Call the National Passport Center at 1-877-487-2778 if you have any questions about what to bring.
  • Bring proof of travel, such as a flight itinerary. For car trips into Canada, see What Can I Use as Proof of Travel When Driving to Mexico or Canada?
  • At the office, pay the required fees.

As long as you have all the paperwork in order, you should be able to get an emergency passport from the passport office within 24 hours.

However, if you can’t  make it to the agency office or you just don’t want to fool with making an appointment, there is a more convenient option: using a private expediting company like RushMyPassport. We personally deliver your application to the Department of State, for processing in as little as 24 hours, with no need to make an appointment or wait in line. If you are applying for a new passport, you’ll need to go to a post office or other acceptance facility to have your documents sealed first, but that’s it. If you’re eligible to apply for a passport renewal by mail, you don’t even have to do that.

Same Day Passport Agency To Open in San Diego on Monday

On Monday, April 4th, San Diego residents who desperately need a new passport to travel can breathe a sigh of relief. That’s the day the new San Diego Passport Agency office officially opens to offer same-day passport services to San Diego residents with imminent international travel plans and no passports. According to this press release from the Department of State, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be hosted by Under Secretary of State for Management Patrick F. Kennedy to celebrate the opening of the new facility.

Unlike your local post office, a passport agency office has the ability to offer same day passport service.  You are eligible to make an appointment at a passport agency office if you need a passport for travel within the next 14 days, or if you are traveling within 4 weeks and also need to apply for a visa.  Previously, San Diego residents in need of these services had to go all the way to either Los Angeles or San Francisco.

The new passport agency office is located at 401 West A Street. Operating hours are 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m, Monday through Friday.

The State Department featured the new agency office in a spotlight on its website recently, and said that “Undoubtedly, the San Diego Passport Agency will join the ranks as a saving grace for travelers who bought their ticket to paradise, before checking the expiration date of their passport.”

That will no doubt be true for many people. But what if you can’t get the time off work to make it to the office when it’s open? Or what if you just don’t want to deal with the hassle of going down to the office?

There is an easier way : with a private passport expediting service like RushMyPassport, you don’t have to make an appointment or wait in line. We’ll meet with the Department of State for you to deliver your application, resulting in processing times as low as 24 hours.

New 24-Hour Passport Office To Open In New Hampshire

A new 24-hour passport office will be opening in Portsmouth, New Hampshire later this year.  The office will be located at the National Passport Center in Portsmouth, which has 840 employees but is not open to the public yet.

Starting in October, workers at the center will be able to assist customers who need emergency passport services by issuing US passport books and US passport cards on site.  This will be a relief to many New Hampshire residents, as previously obtaining 24-hour passport service required a trip to Boston or Connecticut.

Fosters.com quotes U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen discussing the announcement:

“The new services available in Portsmouth will help New Hampshire residents who need an expedited passport get the help they need in a more convenient place, and I’m glad these services will be available this year.”

One important point to keep in mind, however, is that residents who need 24-hour passport services will not be able to simply walk in to the Portsmouth passport office and get one. Before you can be seen at the office, you need to make an appointment during business hours. If you work during the day, expect to have to take some time off work, too- Regional Passport Agency offices are  not open on evenings, weekends or holidays.

If you don’t want to go through the trouble of making an appointment and traveling to the passport office or you simply can’t take any more time off work, there is another way to get your passport quickly.

By using a private passport expediting service like RushMyPassport.com, you get passport processing times as low as 24 hours without having to make an appointment, take time off work or drive to a Regional Passport Agency office.  Plus, you get personal service from a trained passport specialist, reducing the likelihood of common mistakes that can hold up your application.

Passport Office to Open In Buffalo, NY This Year

A new passport office will open in Buffalo, New York later this year, according to ABC News. The Regional Passport Agency will be able to offer same-day passport service, making it easier for people living in western New York to deal with sudden trips across the border to Canada, which now require a passport.

According to WIVB. com, the new passport office will be located in the Warner Building on Genesee Street. It should be open this fall, in late September or early October.  Until then, the closest place for citizens of Western New York to get a same-day passport issued is the passport office in New York City.

The Spectrum, the University of Buffalo’s student newspaper, quoted Representative Chris Lee as saying “Western New Yorkers need to have the ability to travel easily across our northern border. With a one-stop shop passport office located right in our community, Western New Yorkers will be able to more easily acquire valid travel documents while not having their need to conduct cross-border business negatively affected.”

However, there is a catch- same-day passports will only be issued to applicants who can produce proof of travel showing that they have already booked tickets to leave the country within the next 14 days (although if you are traveling for business, a business letter may be accepted).

Also, the passport office will operate on an appointment-only basis, so you can’t expect to just waltz in there and pick up a passport.  Finally, in all likelihood the office will have very limited office hours- many Regional Passport Agency offices have hours that might make bankers jealous.

Although the Department of State has been making an effort to open new passport offices, for many Americans the nearest Regional Passport Agency office is very far away, making driving inconvenient at best and impractical or even impossible at worst.

If you can’t make it to a Regional Passport Agency office, there is an easier way to get your passport expedited. A private expediting company like RushMyPassport.com can hand-deliver your passport application to the Department of State, resulting in lightning-fast processing.  In fact, RushMyPassport.com can have your passport application processed in as little as 24 hours.
