New 24-Hour Passport Office Opens In Minnesota

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

If you need a 24 hour passport in Minnesota, you’re in luck-you now have a Regional Passport Agency where you can apply for one. According to this press  release from the of Department of State, the Minneapolis Regional Passport Agency was officially inaugurated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier today with a visit from United States Senator Amy Klobuchar, Under Secretary of State for Management Patrick F. Kennedy, and Janice L. Jacobs, Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs.

The Minneapolis Regional Passport Agency is one of 17 US passport agencies available to the public. Before it opened, the closest place that Minnesotans could go for emergency passport services was the passport office in Chicago or Detroit.

The Minneapolis Regional Passport Agency is located at 212 South Third Avenue.  To get a 24 hour passport, you must first call and make an appointment. The office is only open from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, so be prepared to take time off work. Make sure you bring all necessary documents: proof of identity, proof of citizenship, 2 passport photos and a copy of your itinerary showing that you plan to depart in less than 14 days.

But what if you aren’t able to take time off work? What if you live hours away from the city? Is there an easier way to get emergency passport services without having to jump through all of those hoops? (more…)

How To Make Sure Your 24 Hour Passport Application is Accepted

Friday, March 27th, 2009

If you are applying for 24 hour passport processing, you don’t have any time to spare. You simply cannot afford to have anything go wrong after you submit your application! The following checklist will help you avoid common mistakes so that your 24 hour passport application is accepted the first time.

Check Your ID

If your driver’s license or state ID card was issued less than 6 months ago, you will need to include 5 additional forms of secondary ID as backup.  Here are some examples of acceptable proof of identification.

Check Your Birth Certificate

Your birth certificate must be certified, with a raised, embossed, engraved or multicolored seal.  If you live in California or Texas, you need a “long form” birth certificate, printed on 8 1/2″ by 11″ paper.

Check Your Check

If you are using a private passport expediting company instead of making an appointment at a Regional Passport Agency, you’ll need to make out your check in advance and send it in with your paperwork. If the check is made out incorrectly, the government won’t accept it.  Make sure you know exactly how much you need to pay, and then check out our guide to filling out checks for the US government.

Make Sure Your Child Support Is  Paid Up

The US Passport Agency cannot issue a passport if you owe more than $2,500 in back child support and you don’t have payment arrangements.  Also, if you have ever been more than $2,500 in arrears, you may be on the “no passport for you” list even if you’ve paid up. Noncustodial parents are not removed from the list automatically, even after they have paid their balance to below $2,500.

To check your child support balance, find your state’s Child Support Enforcement Agency here.

Check Your Documents

When you apply for 24 hour passport processing, you will need to include proof of departure, such as a copy of your travel itinerary or a letter from your company if your trip is for business. If you are renewing your passport and your name has changed, you’ll need legal documentation of the name change.

The easiest way to apply for 24-hour passport processing is to use a private passport expediting company.  When you work with an expediting company like RushMyPassport.com, you’ll get detailed instructions and personalized service to guide you through the application process.

Applying for a 24-Hour Passport? Double-Check Your ID!

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Even if you can’t make it to a US Passport Agency office, you can still get a 24-hour passport if you need to get out of the country in a hurry. A private passport expediting company like RushMyPassport.com can hand-deliver your application and supporting documents to the US Passport Agency, and then rush your new passport to you so that you can have it in your hands in as little as 24 hours.

However, when you’re getting a 24 hour passport, you really don’t have time for do-overs. So, it’s important to double-check everything you send in to make sure that it meets government requirements. This includes your proof of identity. There are two types of identification that you can use to apply for a passport: primary identification documents and secondary identification documents.  Here is a list of primary identification documents:

  • Driver’s license that has been valid for at least 6 months.
  • Federal, State or municipal ID Card with your picture on it.
  • An old passport with your picture on it.
  • Photo ID issued by the military.
  • Your green card with a photo.

If you’re using a driver’s license or a state-issued ID as a primary identification document, it must be valid and at least 6 months old. An expired license won’t work, nor will a license that you’ve had less than 6 months. If you got your license less than 6 months ago, you have two options: Submit another form of primary identification along with 5 pieces of secondary identification, or submit 7 pieces of secondary identification. There are many different types of secondary identification-this page lists all of them with pictures.

When applying for a 24-hour passport, it’s important to get everything right the first time. That’s why you should select an expediting company that offers professional assistance and support. RushMyPassport.com offers an easy online system so that you can track your 24-hour passport application. Plus, representatives are available to chat online from 9 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, except for government holidays.

Getting a 24 Hour Passport for the Holidays

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Christmas is almost here, which means that people all over the country are traveling to see their families, both inside and outside of the US. The Sacramento Bee reports that each year, 1 million Mexican citizens return home to Mexico over Christmas break. That’s a lot of people, and that’s not even counting members of their families who are US citizens and likely traveling with them.

Holiday trips are more complicated when your family lives out of the country. Remember, if you’re crossing the border, even into Canada or Mexico, you’ll need a passport if you’re traveling by plane. In fact, it’s a good idea to have a passport even if you’re driving, just in case something comes up and you need to fly back. In the article referenced above, many Mexican citizens were getting passports from the Mexican consulate, which was able to issue them immediately. What about American citizens? How can they get 24 hour passports? If you’re a US citizen planning on going out of the country for the holidays, hopefully you already have your passport ready to go. But what if you don’t?

At this point, you’ll need to get a 24 hour passport to spend Christmas out of the country. The best way to get a 24 hour passport is to go through a private passport expediting agency like RushMyPassport.com. A private passport expediter can deliver your passport documents to the US government by hand the same day, and then rush your newly issued passport back to you. For extra piece of mind, some private passport expediters even let you track your 24 hour passport order through every step of the process.
